American Girl Doll Heads

Did you realize that there are only about 3 or 4 main face molds used for the American Girl dolls? Most of the American Girl dolls share the same face as Kirsten, Samantha and Molly . . . the very first American Girl dolls. The eye, hair and skin color may vary but the face remains the same until Addy. Another new face was added with Josefina and again with Kaya (I think the only one that doesn't show her teeth).

With the introduction of the Friends, the Josefina mold has been used again . . . afterall, Samantha and Nellie can't have the same face when they are not related and neither can Felicity and Elizabeth . . . so the friends have Josefina's face. A few of the Girls of Today have Josephina's face (including the new Marisol) while some have Addy's face.

Now to a real quirk . . . those dolls with Josephina's face are a tiny bit taller than the other American Girl dolls. This fact had the adult collectors stumped until some observant person (not me!) realized that the Josephina's head has a longer neck!!
