Doll Height and Body Type

We've received several queries on "how to measure the height of a doll?" so we decided it was time to pass on the information!

Measure your doll from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet - just like a person! It's easiest to measure by laying your doll down on top of a ruler or yardstick.

Now you have to take into account what kind of doll it is ie an 18 inch doll like American Girl cannot wear the same clothes as an 18 inch baby doll. An easy way to determine if your doll is a baby doll is to look at the legs - baby dolls usually have bent legs and are not meant to stand up. Baby dolls are usually chubbier than girl dolls.

All-vinyl dolls are usually thinner than dolls with a stuffed cloth body - especially if they are sculpted by Robert Tonner! His dolls are usually quite petite (no matter the height) so that his 8 inch Tiny Betsy Dolls are much thinner than an 8 inch all-vinyl Ginny doll. The result is that they cannot share clothes or shoes!
