New Corolle Dolls

Corolle has issued several new dolls for the holidays - they're really precious and have been ordered! All three should arrive in September - we'll be sure to let you know when they do.

Arielle is a 17" doll (similar to an American Girl doll) with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She's dressed in a pink dress with a soft pink matching hat and sweater. Very fashionable!

We also ordered two soft body 14" toddler dolls. Ambre has blonde hair and blue eyes while her friend Amandine has brown hair and eyes. Ambre is wearing a pink sweater and hat over a two toned pink dress. Amandine wears a pink coat and hat over pink pants.

Watch for these dolls on the Corolle doll pages - they are very special!

Girl's Pioneer Sunbonnets

We just heard from a happy owner of one of our Pioneer Outfits for Girls . . . the outfit was worn so well at a special event that it and the sunbonnet desperately needed washing. The dress is no problem to wash but she and I weren't sure how the sunbonnet would make out. This is what she had to say:

I sprayed it with "shout" stain remover, gently scrubbed the stains then let it soak in warm soapy water. I then drip dried it. It did come clean and kept it's shape.

Good job! Thanks for letting us know -

The History of Doll Accessories Continued

Lovely accessories were made for antique bisque German Dolly-faced dolls and French Bebes in the late 1800s to early 1900s. . . although the selection was not as extensive as those for the French Fashion Dolls.
Besides lovely hats, shoes and purses, toilette sets and china dish sets were very popular. Jewelry, gloves, combs and some furniture were also produced.

Patsy* and her Friends in the 1920's was one of the first "modern" dolls that had many accessories available for her . . . and that were heavily advertised too. These included extra outfits, underwear and doll wardrobes so that children could store all their Patsy items together.

by Denise Von Patten . . . To Be Continued

* NOTE: Patsy dolls from the Effanbee Doll Company were recently re-introduced - we will have Patsy dressed as the various characters from the Wizard of Oz very soon!

Marley Wentworth and her Outfits

Marley Wentworth* is finally up on our pages . . . under 8 inch Tonner Dolls until we can get the site re-organized for other Tonner (and Effanbee) Dolls. We're so pleased to have Marley and the four outfits available to date - still on order are Pep Squad and Autumn Chill. Have fun - she's adorable!

* Marley is the younger sister of Tyler Wentworth, the 16 inch Fashion Doll from Robert Tonner. Tyler is the chief fashion designer of Wentworth House - which was founded by their Aunt Regina (now retired).

Doll and Teddy Bear Expo

If you are anywhere near Washington DC this coming weekend PLEASE go to the Doll and Teddy Bear Expo at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. It's a fantastic event (assuming you like dolls and bears!) and will feature over 150 doll and bear exhibitors.

There are special doll events put on by different companies such as Vogue/Ginny, Madame Alexander and Robert Tonner that require tickets but you will have a wonderful time even without attending those events. The Expo is open 9am to 5pm . . . for further information go to the Expo website

Barbie versus Bratz!

An article in the Sunday business section was all about the battle between Barbie dolls and Bratz dolls . . . which is more popular and which will sell more? Apparently the battle is also in the courtroom with one side claiming to be copied by another . . . don't ever think that just because it's dolls or toys that there is no competition!

Marley Wentworth from Tonner Dolls

Our Marley dolls just arrived and will be up on our pages by Monday 8/15 . . . she is sooo cute! Here's a review on the dolls from Denise van Patten:

Finally . . . the perfect sized child fashion doll to go along with Tyler and other similar 16" fashion dolls! Marley Wentworth has just been released and already she is a big hit with collectors and children alike. . . . The dolls are made of high-quality vinyl, with sweetly painted faces.

The dolls are 12 inches tall with long, straight easily combable hair; the basic Marley comes in blonde, brunette or redhead dressed in pjs. There are an additional six outfits available at this time - each is limited to 1500.

More information coming soon!

Colonial Dresses!

Our new Elizabeth arrived and she is adorable . . . so much so that we had to pair her up with Felicity so they could model two Colonial outfits! Elizabeth is sweet with big blue eyes and dark blonde hair.
We will be adding more new Colonial outfits next month - including one with a matching girl's dress . . . except it will be tea length not floor length!

New Items Coming!

Today we attended a trade Gift Show to see new things - especially Corolle items. We ordered a very special 17.5 inch girl doll that we think you'll like - plus two 14 inch baby dolls with hair! Blonde or brunette pony tails - very cute. And more outfits . . .

Best brand new item is a white wood cradle - very, very nice. Comes with the bedding too . . . there is some assembly needed but just a few phillips-head screws. It's 22 inches long so will serve well for lots of dolls!

American Girl Doll Heads

Did you realize that there are only about 3 or 4 main face molds used for the American Girl dolls? Most of the American Girl dolls share the same face as Kirsten, Samantha and Molly . . . the very first American Girl dolls. The eye, hair and skin color may vary but the face remains the same until Addy. Another new face was added with Josefina and again with Kaya (I think the only one that doesn't show her teeth).

With the introduction of the Friends, the Josefina mold has been used again . . . afterall, Samantha and Nellie can't have the same face when they are not related and neither can Felicity and Elizabeth . . . so the friends have Josefina's face. A few of the Girls of Today have Josephina's face (including the new Marisol) while some have Addy's face.

Now to a real quirk . . . those dolls with Josephina's face are a tiny bit taller than the other American Girl dolls. This fact had the adult collectors stumped until some observant person (not me!) realized that the Josephina's head has a longer neck!!

Doll Height and Body Type

We've received several queries on "how to measure the height of a doll?" so we decided it was time to pass on the information!

Measure your doll from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet - just like a person! It's easiest to measure by laying your doll down on top of a ruler or yardstick.

Now you have to take into account what kind of doll it is ie an 18 inch doll like American Girl cannot wear the same clothes as an 18 inch baby doll. An easy way to determine if your doll is a baby doll is to look at the legs - baby dolls usually have bent legs and are not meant to stand up. Baby dolls are usually chubbier than girl dolls.

All-vinyl dolls are usually thinner than dolls with a stuffed cloth body - especially if they are sculpted by Robert Tonner! His dolls are usually quite petite (no matter the height) so that his 8 inch Tiny Betsy Dolls are much thinner than an 8 inch all-vinyl Ginny doll. The result is that they cannot share clothes or shoes!

Elizabeth and Felicity

Reports from the American Girl Place in New York have been VERY positive! Elizabeth is adorable AND participants were able to buy her right on the spot . . . in fact, you can find several being sold on eBay (we admit that we bought one - you'll see her soon modeling at DollCloset.com). The debut also included a talk from a costume historian about the dress in the 1700's - apparently that was very interesting.

The new items were apparently discussed and/or shown BUT they were NOT available for purchase until Fall. From what I hear, they will be worth the wait! If you've been on the website, you know that the basic Felicity has a new lilac gown. Unfortunately, Elizabeth is NOT there yet . . .
