When did Ginny dolls first come out? And how big are they?

From Millie:

Ginny dolls are about 8 inches tall and first came out in the 1950's. Every little girl had at least one (or a Ginny-like doll) . . . with lots of clothes and accessories. (Much the same a American Girl dolls are today). Your Grandma probably had one - or remembers them!
