American Girl News for 2009
It seems like our readers had the scoop long before anyone else did!!
First, the next AG movie will be about the 2009 Girl of the Year. . . Actress Sammi Hanratty said in a red carpet interview at the Kit movie premiere that she was going to be in an AG movie about the 2009 Girl of the Year which had already filmed and was to come out in January 2009. I also searched for Sammi and didn't learn too much although it seems she has been in lots of TV roles . . . so, I conclude that this is a TV Movie - just like the Samantha, Felicity and Molly ones - and not a full-length movie like Kit is. I also concluded that the 2009 Doll will not be an ethnic doll!
The next AG movie about a historical character will be the musical about 1970's girl Julie Albright (as shown above in her new Perfect Peasant Dress!) according to Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, producer of the Kit movie. The movie, which is just in outline form right now, will have music from the 70's as well as original songs written for the movie. Waiting to see who will play Julie, Ivy and Julie's sister too!
Other information we just learned is that American Girl has filed several names for possible use on future dolls ie Rebecca, Chrissa, Lanie, and Sonali. Stay tuned as we learn more!

Actually, Lulu is supposed to be a cover name, that isn't actually her real name. So Sammi Hanratty's character could be named Chrissa, Lanie, or possibly Sonali--although not Sonali because that is a name from India and it's unlikely she would have that since she isn't Indian.
Also, Rebecca is a historical character that AG has shelved for the time being. There's a rumour that she's Jewish and from the 1880s/1870s and if she is I REALLY want her! (btw, there's another patent of Rebecca that says historical fiction, teaching material, etc.)
When the Rebecca rumours surfaced for the first time in 2004 or 2005, she was supposed to have blond hair and brown eyes, but I think that the rumour was actually about the Julie doll and not the Rebecca one.

I've also heard that the GOTY will be named Jaclyn. I REALLY don't want them to name her Lulu. That is such a weird name. Anyway, that's really cool. I hope it turns out well. I can't wait till January.
A Rebbecca doll?! Cool. I hope she's cute.

The name Jaclyn was mentioned as a possibility several times but I can't remember if it was this year or last year! (I agree that Lulu would NOT be a good name!)
Since all the dolls have the basic same faces, I don't think they can help but be cute!

Ah! I have missed SO much! Yeah, it's true. Samantha and Nellie are going away, but it's possible that she will only be retired for a year or two, remember how they did that to Felicity before they came out with a whole bunch more stuff for her? That could be there plan (fingers crossed!)
And I think Jaclyn is totally made up. And if you check out Doll Diaries, which I just HAD to ;), they say that Chrissa is the next dolls name. Unfortunately, I don't have any insiders on THIS doll, but I am just as excited as the rest of you!

Hey, um the GOTY came out in the 2009 magazine today. Her name is Chrissa. She is a girl who moves to a new town and has to face bullies. She has two bff's: Gwen and Sonali. She likes sewing, swimming, and playing with her 3 mini lamas: Starburst, Cosmos, and Checkers. (Only Starburst is avaible to purchase.) She has medium length brown hair, and blue eyes, no freckles. I think she is really cute, and a nice personality. You can also get her movie from American Girl or other sites for around $19.99.

Quite a bit is accurate from what I can tell from the flyer we received. Her eyes are brown I'm almost positive - and her friend Ana is also her cousin newly arrived from Russia (Rebecca was born in the USA)
And the book abour Hanukkah is called "Candlelight for Rebecca" - there also isn't one called just Rebecca but there is one called "Rebecca to the Rescue"

The article talked about a Rebecca, Chrissa, Lanie, and Sonali. Well, as far as I know, Chrissa and Sonali, along with Gwen, are the GoTYs of 2009, Rebecca is a new historical (Jewish) around the same period as Sam, that's why she is gone. Who is Lanie?

Hey! I heard a rumor from a friend that Rebecca's best friend Ana will be released in september, is this true? Also, QVC is selling American Girl stuff July 26th, do you know what dolls will be on it?

That's interesting re Ana . . they might be! But, at least in the books, she looks almost like Rebecca. We shall see!
Sorry I didn't get back to you before this but I heard that Chrissa was on QVC and Felicity and a few more. Apparently the savings were good too!

I heard that there were going to be 2 new AG dolls, Sarah and Denise! It would be so cool if Sarah was from New Albany, and had dirty blonde hair,blue eyes, and was ADDICTED to reading, and Denise was Sarah's best friend, and had blonde hair and blue eyes, and loved swimming and gymnastics!!!!!!!!!!! That would be AWESOME!!!
